SSI Open Water Certification

Want to learn to dive on the Great Barrier Reef? Cairns Dive Centre offers SSI Open Water Certification courses right through to instructor level.

Cairns Dive Centre offers daily SSI learn to dive courses. Open water dive courses take 4 days, the first 2 days are spent at our training centre located in Cairns and then you go out on the reef for 2 days to do your training dives.

• A 4-day open-water budget course costs $440 (2 single day trips out on the reef)
• A 4-day live aboard open water course costs $540 (2 days / 1 night out on the live aboard boat, meals and accommodation included whilst on board the boat.
• A 5 day live aboard open water course costs $660 (3 days / 2 nights out on the live aboard boat, meals and accommodation included whilst on the boat.

Extra costs:

$50 Dive Medical: You must pass an Australian Standards dive medical (AS4005.1) The doctor comes to the classroom on the first day

$7 Photographs for the certification card

Skydiving courses

Looking for an adrenaline rush? Skydive Australia offers skydiving courses at their Byron Bay and Coffs Harbour drop off zones in NSW. Solo skydiving courses (TAFF instruction and AFF Stages 1-9) are offered.

Using the TAFF method of instruction, the preliminary jumps are performed in tandem with a qualified tandem master. Following the successful completion of this stage, stages 1-9 of the AFF course (including parachute packing instruction) will be completed over a number of days (usually allow up to 10 days as these courses can be delayed due to adverse weather).

Day 1 consists of classroom training on the theory and history of skydiving
Day 2 you will do a tandem jump assisted by your master and learn the basics of canopy control and landing

Stages 2-9 of AFF are then undertaken practicing skills such as canopy management, tracking and low altitude exits.

Cost A$2500 (to complete the A license plus 11 additional competency jumps are required which can be completed with Skydive Australia for a cost of A$660 including all gear hire.
